Driving in Gran Canaria from the airport to Roque Nublo takes sixty six minutes for fifty one kilometres, in free-flow conditions. Every car booked through car rental in Gran Canaria may travel only on paved public roads.

After car rental from the airport, a driver whose licence is valid only in its issuing country is strongly advised to carry an International Driving Permit. The licence must show its details in Latin script, and copies and electronic licences are not accepted.

How should I plan my first drive?

Airport collection is in arrivals, with the supplier's meeting instructions on the voucher. The airport is nineteen kilometres south of Las Palmas, in Telde and Ingenio.

The GC-1 runs from Las Palmas to Puerto de Mogan. It is a designated motorway from the airport southward and not between Las Palmas and the airport.

From the airport, Las Palmas and Playa del Ingles are each twenty seven minutes away in free-flow conditions, in opposite directions. From the airport, Maspalomas is thirty minutes, Meloneras thirty one and Puerto Rico thirty nine. Car rental in Playa del Ingles uses delivery to an address through the San Bartolome de Tirajana search. For your stay in the capital, this site's search uses airport collection, and the routed drive from the airport to central Las Palmas is twenty six kilometres.

How should I use the route estimates?

Each estimate is the larger of two routed passes where two were run, in free-flow conditions. Collection, parking, stops and traffic are outside the figure.

Puerto de Mogan is fifty five kilometres and forty five minutes from the airport, so the shorter route to Roque Nublo takes twenty one minutes longer.

Routes differ by direction and origin. Roque Nublo is sixty five minutes from Maspalomas and sixty seven from Meloneras, and the drive from Las Palmas to the airport takes twenty five minutes against twenty seven the other way. On the coastal and inland routes, the leg from Puerto de Mogan to Agaete is one hundred and eight kilometres and ninety three minutes, and Agaete to Teror is forty five minutes.

What should I know about speed and road choice?

The GC-1, the Autopista del Sur, is the island's main north-south road, and its top speed limit is one hundred and twenty kilometres an hour. From the airport southward it is a designated motorway; between Las Palmas and the airport it is not.

The GC-600, the road past the Roque Nublo trailhead, runs 14.2 kilometres from the GC-15 to the GC-60 at Ayacata.

Fuel, parking, fines and toll roads are paid by the renter.

Can I use an unpaved track?

The island's interior has unpaved tracks, and the rental terms bar rental cars from all of them.

Wheels and undercarriage are outside standard insurance. Deliberate damage through intentional vandalism or neglect invalidates the insurance.

How should I choose the vehicle?

Each car's listing states its seat count and transmission, along with the driver's minimum age and driving experience, which can vary even between similar models. The car data for a seven-seat rental also carries a luggage count, the number of bags the car takes, and every car is listed "or similar".

Mileage terms are set per car: some models have no limit, others a daily limit or a total for the rental. A return trip from the airport to Puerto de Mogan is about one hundred and ten kilometres, and a Roque Nublo day about one hundred.

The rental agent can refuse the car at any time to a driver who does not meet its minimum age or experience.

What does standard insurance exclude?

At the standard level, the insurance for your driving days excludes damage to wheels, undercarriage, windscreen and interior, wherever on the island it happens. Higher cover levels are listed on the car.

After an insured event, the renter must notify the rental agent immediately and obtain a police report, unless agreed otherwise with the agent. Missing either condition cancels the insurance and leaves the renter fully responsible.

How do parking and fuel fit into the plan?

Blue parking markings show paid parking and white markings free parking. Green markings in Las Palmas mark preferential parking for registered residents. The sign and parking meter at the space show the conditions for other drivers.

Parking and fuel are paid by the renter, outside the rental price.

Under the fuel-return obligation, the car goes back with the fuel level it had at collection. A lower level is charged at the rental company's rates, and a higher level is not refunded.

Can I include another island or extend the trip?

Some cars are approved for inter-island ferry travel and some are not. Approval is per vehicle; ask before booking to choose an approved car.

An extension requires advance notice to the rental agent.

What should I check before collecting the car?

The phone number given at booking must be reachable throughout the rental and on the day before pickup. Service quality claims are not accepted if the renter could not be reached by phone or by Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram.

At pickup the driver carries the licence card itself and any credit card the car requires, which must be a physical embossed card in the main driver's name.

Frequently asked questions

These answers cover the practical questions behind the rental. For an existing booking, your voucher identifies the rental agent and the agreed arrangements.

May I take an unpaved shortcut shown by navigation?

No. The rental terms permit travel only on paved public roads.

Does a coastal destination mean a shoreline route?

No. Routed times follow the fastest roads, and the routed drive from Puerto de Mogan to Agaete is 107.8 kilometres and 93 minutes.

Does the first drive begin when the flight lands?

No. The car is collected in arrivals first, and routed drive times exclude the handover and traffic.

Who is responsible for fines and road charges?

The renter pays fuel, parking, fines and toll-road charges under the terms.

Can I use one speed limit for the whole journey?

No. The GC-1's top speed limit is 120 km/h, and other roads carry their own posted limits.
